Home-Start is incredibly diverse; not just in regards the many different services that are provided, but also in regards the many, many different families who bring with them their own set of circumstances and requirements.

On Monday I met two victims of Domestic Violence, an experience which had a large impact on me.  My understanding of Domestic Violence prior to my time at Home-Start was very much of a man lashing out as a result of a temper tantrum or too much alcohol, but I was soon to learn that far from an emotional reaction, Domestic Violence is a pre-meditated event with the sole intent of exerting complete control on the victim.

It was perhaps the impact on the victims that gave me the biggest shock, the two women that I met were totally unable to function with their day-to-day lives, were quick to blame themselves and were lacking anything that might be construed as self-esteem.

I know that colleagues in the South East policing area have commented on the great work you do and I would personally like to thank you for your continued support in providing Kent Police with such high quality placements on a regular basis. Officers who have been on placement with you have said that the experience has been a real eye-opener. It has certainly increased their understanding of the groups you work with and support.

There is an added bonus when Officers who have spent time with you make their presentations to other Police personnel on their Area. Those who attend those presentations are also given an insight into the good work you do, which increases the profile of your organisation.
